Every great custom ring starts with a conversation. When you design your own engagement ring with DG & Co., you're not choosing from a shelf — you're creating a piece that tells your story. We begin by understanding your partner's style, your budget, your timeline, and your vision. The process is collaborative from the first appointment. Our designers sketch concepts, present stone options, and guide you through every decision — diamond shape, band profile, metal, setting. Nothing is finalised until you're completely satisfied.
Building your own ring means making every key choice, with expert guidance along the way. You choose:
● The diamond or gemstone — shape, carat, colour, clarity and certification
● The metal — 18k yellow, white or rose gold, or platinum
● The setting — solitaire, halo, pavé, three-stone, vintage milgrain and more
● The band profile — plain, twisted, split, cathedral or knife-edge
● Any engraving or personal detail
The result reflects your relationship and your own taste — not a catalogue design.
The band is often overlooked, yet it defines a ring's character. A plain band spotlights the diamond; pavé spreads brilliance across the ring; a twisted band adds movement; a cathedral band lifts the stone dramatically. At DG & Co., every band is crafted to complement your chosen diamond and setting — never an afterthought. We produce bands in any profile — half-round, flat, comfort-fit, knife-edge, tapered — in all standard metals, plus two-tone and custom-width options.
Popular Custom Band Styles
● Plain half-round — comfortable, classic, understated
● Pavé — small diamonds set into the band for continuous brilliance
● Twisted or rope — spirals toward the setting for a sense of flow
● Split/fork — divides below the stone, framing it from two sides
● Cathedral — arched supports elevate the stone
● Knife-edge — tapers to a sharp, slimming ridge
● Milgrain-edge — beaded detail along the edges, a vintage hallmark
Custom Rings — Crafted in Melbourne, Made for a Lifetime All DG & Co. rings are made in our Melbourne workshop by experienced craftsmen using traditional and modern techniques. We never outsource production. Every ring leaves our workshop only after passing internal inspection. This lets us accommodate detailed or highly personal designs standard jewellers can't produce, with consistent, verifiable quality.
● Direct oversight from wax model to finished ring
● Ability to adjust designs during production
● Faster turnaround for modifications and resizing
● Transparent process — see your ring at each stage
● No intermediary markup — your budget goes into the ring
Our process is refined to be clear, enjoyable and stress-free — even for first-time fine jewellery buyers.
Step 1 — Initial Consultation Your journey starts with a consultation — in-person in Melbourne or via video call. We learn your vision, your partner's style, your budget and timeline. No obligation, no pressure.
Step 2 — Design Concept & Stone Selection Our designers prepare concept sketches and present certified diamonds or gemstones, explaining the four Cs and the difference between GIA and IGI certification. You'll leave knowing exactly what your ring will look like and cost.
Step 3 — Approval & Production Once approved, production begins — typically 3 to 4 weeks, longer for elaborate designs. We keep you informed throughout.
Step 4 — Delivery & Aftercare When ready, we arrange collection or delivery. Every ring comes with its diamond certificate, valuation, and aftercare instructions, plus a complimentary first-year clean and prong check.
Ring design involves interconnected choices — the diamond shape and setting style you pick early will shape which bands and metals work best. Our team guides you through the sequence.
Choosing the Diamond Shape The shape defines the ring's character. Round brilliants maximise sparkle; ovals elongate the finger; cushions feel soft and romantic; emerald cuts are architectural; pears are dramatic. Your choice influences which settings and bands flatter it best. We can show samples of each shape in person.
Choosing the Metal Metal is the most personal decision. Yellow gold is warm and traditional, currently having a revival. White gold and platinum are cool and contemporary, popular for D–F colour diamonds. Rose gold flatters most skin tones and photographs beautifully. Two-tone designs combine metals for a distinctive look.
Choosing the Setting Style The setting determines how the diamond is held and presented. Solitaire focuses attention on the stone; halo amplifies its perceived size; three-stone flanks it with side stones; pavé adds sparkle to the band shoulders; bezel offers the most protection for active lifestyles. Each affects wearability, maintenance and visual impact.
Since both rings are worn together daily, they should look like they belong together. DG & Co. can design a matching wedding band as part of the same commission, curved to sit perfectly against your engagement ring with no gap. Designing both together is the most practical approach — we already have your engagement ring's exact specifications to match in metal, finish and proportion. Many couples return one to three years later to commission a matching anniversary or eternity ring.
● Profile — curved wraps around the ring; straight sits flush beside it
● Width — typically 2–3mm narrower than the engagement ring
● Metal — match exactly for seamless look, or contrast intentionally
● Diamonds — can echo the engagement ring's side stones or halo
● Finish — polished, brushed or combination, complementing the engagement ring
